The fifteen-story collection “Dubliners” is a master class in short-story writing. From the early stories–“The Sisters,” “Eveline”–to the later stories like “A Mother” or “The Dead,” the stories continue to inspire, delight, and surprise, even on continued re-readings.

In this fun seven-session class, we’ll read all fifteen stories, and discuss them all deeply from the perspective of both writers and readers, turning them inside and out.

You’ll leave the sessions with a deep knowledge not only of the individual stories but the over-arching book as a whole, with the craft knowledge to last a lifetime, with new friends and community of readers, and with new kinds of writing inspiration!

Jordan Hartt jordan copyis the author of the story collections “Leap” and “Drifting,” both on Tebot Bach Press.

My lifework is in creating experiences where people find the craft instruction to reach for their best writing, find the community to connect meaningfully across backgrounds, and find the lifelong inspiration of the writing life, including the Olympia Writing Center’s high-level writing workshops, language classes, cultural exchange programs, and readings and performances here in our area.

To do this, I facilitate the Center; host annual writing residencies in Po’ipū, Kaua’i; Kolkata, India; and Kampala, Uganda; and give as a philanthropist to artists and visionaries around the world. I’m currently working on a new book.
