Capacity: Each residency limited to 15 residents

Live and write among the hibiscus, plumeria, and sunsets of the Garden Isle. Open to writers across all genres, the Kaua’i Writing Residencies are a gentle blend of writing time and community time, set amidst the breezes, natural beauty, tranquility, and bliss of Kaua’i.

After three sold-out residencies, a gift from the generosity of a visionary donor has cut the cost of these residencies by half for our residencies next June and November.

How it now works:

1. Make a (fully refundable) deposit at the bottom of this page and we’ll be in touch within twenty-four hours to confirm.
2. At that point you’ll select the place you want to stay: one-bedroom residence or two-bedroom residence and we’ll book it. Whatever the listed cost is, divide it by half.
3. Show up at the airport in Lihue on June 2 or November 10.

We also do airport pickups/dropoffs; you only have to rent a car if you want to explore the rest of the island. (Recommended, but not necessary.)

During the week itself, there are optional community freewriting exercises in the morning from 10:30 am to noon and optional community dinners each evening where we get together to talk about writing and enjoy great food and conversation. But your residency time is really your own: for reading, for writing, for exploring all that the Garden Isle has to offer.

Because you have an entire unit all to yourself, it’s also perfect for writers who want to come with a spouse/partner, as well as for writers looking for a solo retreat.

Po’ipū is a small condo community located on the sunny southern shore of Kaua’i, about akapa'a day half-hour southwest from the airport at Lihue. Good coffee and restaurants are available in multiple locations around the community. Koloa, about a five-minute drive away.

Each morning, optional guided freewrites help us loosen our writing muscles and get words on the page.

In one of the most beautiful and inspiring locations on earth, spend your afternoons and evenings enjoying the best of what Kaua’i has to offer, including enjoying the beach or water, hiking, discovering the history and culture of Kaua’i, or simply reading and writing at good restaurants and cafes.
